Supported Independent Living is designed to help NDIS participants manage daily routines safely, and this includes support with medications and appointments when required.
Medication Prompts
Support workers can remind participants to take their medication at the correct times. This may include verbal prompts, checking medication schedules and helping maintain daily routines. Support workers do not prescribe medication, but they support safe use as outlined in a participant’s plan and medical advice.
Assistance With Medication Management
Where approved, workers may help organise medications using blister packs or pill boxes and ensure medications are stored safely. Any support provided follows NDIS guidelines and individual care plans.
Appointment Support
SIL also includes help with attending medical, therapy and community appointments. Support workers can assist with scheduling, reminders, transport and attending appointments for reassurance and communication support.
Building Independence
The goal is not to create reliance but to support independence. Over time, participants may learn to manage reminders, calendars and routines with less support if this aligns with their goals
