When you receive an NDIS plan, one of the most important decisions you make is how your funding will be managed. The National Disability Insurance Scheme offers three types of plan management options, each with different levels of control and support.
1. Agency Managed (NDIA Managed)
In this option, the NDIA pays your providers directly. You can only use NDIS-registered providers, and you don’t handle invoices or claims yourself. It’s the simplest option for participants who prefer less administration.
Best for: People who want everything handled for them and don’t need flexibility with unregistered providers.
2. Plan Managed
Here, you choose a Plan Manager (like Pacific Community Care) to handle your funding. Your Plan Manager pays providers, tracks your budget and ensures invoices meet NDIS guidelines.
You can use both registered and unregistered providers, giving you more freedom while still avoiding paperwork.
Best for: Participants who want flexibility without managing finances themselves.
3. Self-Managed
You take full control of your NDIS funding — paying providers, keeping receipts and claiming reimbursements through the myNDIS portal. You can use any provider, registered or not, as long as costs are “reasonable and necessary.”
Best for: Participants who want maximum choice and don’t mind managing claims and budgets.
At Pacific Community Care, we guide participants through all three options and help you choose what works best for your goals, independence and lifestyle.
